The latest data is in and our kids’ mental health is not getting better..
The latest survey on mental health among American conducted by Gallup, revealed concerning findings. 38% of respondents aged 12 to 26 have received a formal diagnosis of anxiety or depression, with variations by gender – 29% of young men and 45% of young women. Even among those without a diagnosis, approximately half report feeling anxious often, and a quarter feel depressed frequently. (Arthur Brooks, The Atlantic)
Old solutions will not fix new problems. Media has a major role to play here in both helping create this epidemic and solving it.
Video games, when delivered without exploitative mechanics are as much as 4x more effective than traditional drugs and therapies for helping address mental health. It is media that has hurt us in many ways, but it is also media that will provide the greatest solutions.
